Vienna waits for you...

Oh, hello, Internet. I didn't see you there.

I created this blog because in (eek!) nine days time, I will be on a plane to Vienna, where I will live and work for three weeks. How did I get so fabulously lucky, one might ask. This past semester, I applied for and received a grant from the University I attend allowing me to conduct further research on my Honors Project topic, transcript by Heimrad Bäcker.

While visiting my friend in Pennsylvania this weekend, she suggested that I blog about my trip, so that people at home could stay updated on where I was going and what I was learning. Thus, friends in textbooks was born. Here, you can expect to find ramblings and analysis of the things I see, the books I read, the papers I write...and whatever I generally find interesting. I invite comments regarding any topic, especially those that involve hashing out research ideas.

Except more and frequent updates as I prepare for my trip. Here is the list of things that I have to do before I leave:

1. Clean my room.
2. Clean my bathroom.
3. Clean my car.
4. Get my haircut.
5. Call my debit card company (you know, so they don't think someone has stolen my identity and is gallivanting around Europe with it).
6. Buy a new external hard drive (RIP Bernadette).
7. Edit my Honors Project (which I probably should have done before I handed it in).
8. Get friends' addresses for postcards.
9. Visit Nana.
10. Get a new watchband.
11. Rent an international cell phone.
12. Refill my prescription.
13. Pack.

A good time is sure to be had by all.

Thank you to Megan McGee, for giving me this fabulous idea, and Sara Allen, for introducing me to the song Dear Vienna, by Owl City, from which I stole the title for this blog.

Auf Wiedersehen, Internet!
